Description

18th century American gilded circle frame with convex mirror. Convex mirrors were very fashionable in the early XVIX century. This style evolved from the renaissance into the neo-classical era. Their use was encouraged by the availability of convex glass in the early 1800's. As a practical value, the convex mirror could reflect large areas and if flanked by sconces or candelabra could reflect more light across the room. Also available as circle frames with no top or bottom.
